Welcome to T:FotO
Hi, there!
I'm sure those who will be hitting up this site right away will already know who I am. For those few who don't(and trust me, at first the number will be few :-P,) allow me to introduce myself. I'll be running the show for the time being... but simply put, I'm a Roleplaying enthusiast.
Along with most of the others who will be frequenting this board, I've been a player of RPGs for some time. Starting with AD&D 2nd edition, I eventually moved to different systems such as Palladium and V:TM before losing touch with an interested player base in 2000. Not too long after that, I discovered one of the most immersive RP-enforced MMOs ever, Underlight. I've been playing that off and on up until very recently, when their Admins pulled the server pending "restructuring."
If any of the people who have left the Underlight community are like me, they can agree to a very simple statement: we still need our RPG fix. But there were some problems posed by the Underlight atmosphere that could make the game frustrating. Specifically, the following:
1) Time demand: the game required a huge investment of personal time, usually hours on a daily basis
2) Crossover: Due to the size of the community, it was tight-knit; this led to many problems between players that led to conflict between characters
3)GMs: Many of the GMs were active, but also incredibly necessary to vitalize the game. This is no easy task when the server is up 24/7 and they have their own lives that need tending to.
4)Severely outdated software: Underlight's client was more than 10 years old, and was often prone to crashes, errors, server downages, etc etc.
What I pose is this:
Running a weekly, episodic, linear campaign setting module by module using the Neverwinter Nights engine for recreational purposes. There would be no huge contribution of time on behalf of the players, things would be kept relatively simple yet immersive to avoid crossover, each module would be GM-run but within a timeframe that doesn't take away from anyone's life, and the game would be supported by an engine that, while old, is comparatively current, easy to use, and easy on the eyes.
"Tyrus: Fall of the Order" will be such a concept. In less than a month's time(based on personal estimate,) the game will go live and run on a weekly basis, entertaining a small player base with an immersive setting, in-depth background, and compelling story that will span three campaigns. If the game proves to be successful, then consideration will be made to dedicate a server. But that's not for some time. :-P
Obviously, I need several DMs to serve in an administrative capacity as we get things up and running. But mostly, we need PLAYERS. We have several interested players already, but I encourage you to look for more. Our player base will be extremely limited at first, but as we grow and DMs begin to come up with modules of their own, I see no reason why we can't branch out to include a somewhat larger player base.
During this period of creative brainstorming and module building, I encourage everyone to share ideas! Post here with questions, comments, thoughts and opinions! I look forward to hearing from everyone and will seriously consider every post I read. :-)
Until then.... get ready! I have -no- doubt that this will be worth it.
Thank You!
